MUSICAL THEATRE JAZZ

Musical Theatre Jazz is designed for those participating in performing arts, as well as theatre dance enthusiasts who are not yet involved but would like to be. Each class consists of two parts: training and choreography. The training is based on classical Jazz Dance technique, while refining elements that are integral parts of the dance combinations. The goal of this segment is to bring the body into excellent form, develop awareness of movement on stage and the use of the body’s core, as well as build (and expand) dance vocabulary. The second part of the class involves learning and dancing a choreography routine, which can optionally be performed in dance heels, as is done in Broadway dance classes in New York. The dance material will always have a specific theme, taken from classical or modern Broadway musicals. Expect a good workout that covers all aspects of musical theatre dance performance, including the essential acting component.

STREET JAZZ

Street Jazz is a high-energy fusion of Jazz Dance with Urban Dance elements. Training consists of a full-body warm-up through conditioning exercises, strength exercises, and dance routines with the goal of preparing the body for class. Warm-up is followed by specific technique exercises and improvisation. For culmination, the class ends with work on choreography set to popular music. As a reward, after the dancing part comes well-deserved rest through stretching and calming exercises. Music, energy, groove, originality, and creativity are what makes Street Jazz a fun and interesting process

MASTERCLASS SERIES

The MasterClass Series are advanced-level dance classes in which educator/choreographer/director Tihana Strmečki, through an individual approach of dance technique and stage expression exercises, will pass on the knowledge she has diligently gathered for more than 15 years from the biggest names of the global dance scene who are educators on Broadway and the West End. The technical segment of the MasterClass Series involves challenging exercises rooted in Jazz Dance, Horton, Floor-barre, contemporary dance, or classical ballet. The stage component focuses on developing stage presence, expressiveness, movement dynamics, transitions, and performance as a whole, as well as improving the nuances that make each artist authentic and unique

JAZZELLE KIDS

JazzElle Kids is a dance course for children aged 7–12, in which motor, coordination, and creative skills are developed through play and joy. Using a thoughtful pedagogical approach, children will dive into the beautiful world of dance, acting, and music alongside their peers with lots of laughter. The group performs at various dance festivals and competitions, developing team spirit and unity through dance, and mutual appreciation and respect for others.

STAGE PRACTICE/MUSICAL VOCAL

Stage Practice/Musical Vocal is a theatrical program encompassing education in acting, dance, and singing. The goal is to provide young amateur artists with knowledge and a platform to combine all three major stage disciplines. Musical Vocal is a singing class in which, besides building vocal technique, the participants learn songs that are choreographed in Musical Theatre Jazz classes. This course can be taken in combination with the mentioned classes to complete the theatrical experience and education, or as a standalone course for those who enjoy just singing. The program has so far culminated in the creation of the musical “Pravi krivi put” [The Right Wrong Way], performed five times on professional theatre stages, and the dance performance “Scenske minijature” [Stage Miniatures], where participants also tried their hand at the creative process of devising theatrical etudes. The Stage Practice course is taught by a rotating team of various theatre arts instructors.

JAZZ DANCE (old school)

Jazz Dance is a dance technique that draws its foundations from classical ballet, which is why every serious jazz training consists of three parts. In the first part of the class, after full-body warm-up exercises, the focus is on exercises that develop technique and increase flexibility and strength. It is important to note that this segment emphasizes isolated movement of individual body parts, which is stylistically very characteristic of jazz choreography. After strength exercises, this part of the class ends with stretching, which is vital for lengthening muscles and reducing strain. The second part includes movement exercises utilizing the entire space, commonly known as Across-the-floors. Since Jazz Dance uses spatial movement, it is necessary to learn to use all its dimensions to free the body from the habit of staying in one place. Across-the-floors include spatial elements such as turns and jumps, as well as various dance combinations. The third part of the class includes practicing choreography. The instructor assigns a dance sequence which is then interpreted and perfected. Learning new movements, refining known elements, paying attention to rhythm, dynamics, strength, focus, all with a dose of individuality, are the most difficult and most beautiful parts of the class. Classes are tailored to participants’ skill levels, with emphasis on optimal learning outcomes.
